Why should they make a new version of the old IIIf or IIIg? Why not make a
*new* camera with *new* facilities? I'm dreaming of a new Leica C V-E
(Compact Vario-Elmar) with a Vario-Elmar 28~56mm zoom lens, opening at about
f/3.5-4.5, light metering from -0.4 EV up to EV 17, with +/- 5 EV exposure
compensation available. Something intelligent like the Contax TVS, with
*manual* and *automatic* modes (aperture priority), passive/active AF and
manual scale focusing possibilities, with DOF indicator around the small
"command wheel", with the lens going permanently into position in manual
(scale focusing) mode, to reduce the lens delay and inertia, with extended
customizing possibilities. Discrete black, magnesium finish (no luxury
here!). Not too expensive of course, around $1000. *That* would be a camera!

Unfortunately I think that the engineers in Solms instead are preparing a
G-2 killer, a new AF RF system with some of the features mentioned above.
For those who like systems, it's fair enough, they can soon choose between
the *new* system or the *old* models of Leica M...
I don't care too much about systems, neither in politics, nor in
photography. I should like one single camera with one single lens covering
35-50 mm, a classic and contemporary Leica camera.
