Things were done differently in the old days of sports photography.  I have
seen film clips of baseball games where the photographers would all line up
just on the outside of the firstbase line, during the game itself, and flash
away with their cameras while runners would head for first.   I guess it was
the only way to get decent pictures in the days before long lenses and roll
film became commonplace.
