A bit of info, and an embarassing mistake admitted:

I looked up Barbey's bio in the book In Our Time, published by and
about the history of Magnum. Bruno Barbey was born Feb 13, 1941 in,
interestingly, Morocco. Has contributed to many travel books,
specifically Iran: Rebirth of a Timeless Empire; Nigeria ('78); Bombay
('79); Poland ('82); Portugal ('88).

Sometime my brain mixes up Barbey and Marc Riboud. The vague
alliterations in the names, perhaps. It is Marc Riboud who really did
the books on North Vietnam (the Face of North Vietnam; 1970) and Ankor
Wat and has the 40-year China retrospective. He took first pix of
china in 1957 and in 66 published The Three Banners of China. Riboud
and Barbey's sensibilities are similar, although I think Barbey shoots
more color. Riboud was born in 1923 and has more book credits than my
computer has bytes.

Sorry for the mix up, but it did get me to venture into the Magnum
book, always a pleasure and inspiration.
