If I understand what you are trying to say, it's misleading, at least for
some of us. The choice is not, at least in my Eudora, between a reply
option where you have to reproduce the whole old message, or a new message
with no part of the old message. The reply option can be used without
re-sending the whole message to which you are replying; I did it here, when
I reproduced only the parts of your message that I wanted to discuss. You
just delete those parts of the message that are not relevant to the reply.

Of course you are right if you want to say that people should take the time
to do this editing so we all don't have to re-read everything. I also
suggest that where possible the reply be above the old bits, to make it
quicker for those who remember the thread (yes, I know I didn't do that
here, but that's because I thought readers needed to see part of your old
message first).
