Fax a bunch of s/h dealers as if you're trying to buy the list of items 
which were stolen, and asking them to fax back their matching stock.

Now here's an idea:

Why not start a web site where folks can post serial numbers of
their stolen equipment? Dealers could check the page to see if
merchanise on offer is "hot".

Insurance companies would be potential advertisers.
