Heck, I'm obsolete too. Have been for years. I suppose that makes me a natural 
Leica-"ite." However, using the compact and obsolete M6, I recently photographed 
tiny serial numbers and black on black inscriptions (engraving) with black and 
white film. The contrast was outstanding, the focus right on. My F4s with macro 
lens would not have done as well. While the M6 isn't a macro camera, and 
this was an unusual problem, there is much to be said for allowing the human as 
much control as possible.
