I one worked with a photojournalist whose primary camara was a Mamiya 1000DTL--his back up, if you can believe it, was an M3.(He would always say, "well, you know that the Leica just isn't an SLR like the 1000...") In that case, this prosaic m-42 screw mount camera was pro gear. Maybe we should consider Leica (and some Canon and Nikon and Contax) as pro-capable gear.
