RE: Titanium lenses - special order?

Know what you mean.  I just went through the same thought process.
I bought new black chrome M6 with 35mm Summicron.  Some of the reasons:
1. I expect to put this camera  in my will.  Longevity is desired but 
cosmetics and resale value are not worth an additional 25%.
2. I believe only 3 or 4 of the lenses are titanium at this time and not 
all are available in chrom either.
3. I like to shoot at night and in crowds and am of the opinion that black 
is less obtrusive.
4. I was tempted to start with the 21mm.  I really like that focal length. 
 But,  35 is more useful for family, travel etc.  The pictures will please 
my wife more.  And a small point, I have to focus the 35 (i.e. get practice 
using rangefinder).  With a 21 I'd tend to set to hyperfocal length and 
never focus.  21 or 90 will be second and third, though I'm not sure in 
which order.
4.5  I sort of thought of the 28mm but it is bigger than 35 and not as 
fast.
5. f2 vs f1.4.  Based on hearsay from groups like this, it seemed that the 
summicron is sharper at wide apertures and f2 is still the fastest lens I 
have, so I won't miss f1.4.  (My apologies to Roger Hicks). Can't afford 
the aspheric.  Maybe someday.
6. I bought new.  Everyone seems to say good deals can be had on used, But 
I have no experience buying used and prefer that my first leica experience 
be the best possible.
7. I read all I could find and invested in Leica M Compendium before 
commiting myself.

This is obviously all opinion but it's mine, I'm pleased with it and I 
really enjoy using my M6.
