The Japanese New Face Laboratory tested all three variants of the Summicron
for the magazine, All About Historical Cameras, and found that the
first-generation lens had an average surface resolution of 181mm, the second
generation lens 98mm, and the third 116mm. I believe the first-generation
lens' center resolution figure of 280mm was the highest the Laboratory had
ever encountered.
