The MR meter is first rate. Later models did have a more compact switch to
accommodate the M4. I use mine on an M3. It covers the 90mm field, so it can
be used as a spot meter with shorter lenses. 

I find taking readings with it to be more accurate than using any inboard
meter because of the comparative array of choices immediately visible on the
dial. 
It's sensitive enough for most EL work. You can really interpret a scene with
it -- which is why I'd like to see Leica restore the M3 or M4 to the lineup.
That MR meter epitomizes the best features of the M3 and M4.
