For example, the lettering is not as fine as it used to be. Also, I have a Summicron with one of the letters a different width than the others. Other signs may be the quality of add-ons. For example, the covers for the lens mount are now solid plastic and do not have metal parts of Leica logo. I have a couple of the older ones and they are better. Look at the new metal lens caps. They are not as solid and thick as the previous caps. And the list goes on. I have an older DR Summicron and the quality of machining is simply delightful. The lens is extremely smooth and a pleasure to operate. On the other hand, the new Summicrons appear very tight by comparison. I am sure that there are internal shortcuts too.
