"You could always have m4p take-up spool put in your M3"

Can this be done?  The Leitz retrofit kit for pre-M4 cameras does not, in my 
eperience work well. At least not for me.  The spool has fewer 'fingers' 
than the M4 type and won't always grip the film.  Any thoughts, anyone?
