Oops, Zeiss lenses for 35mm are made in Japan, with only a few being made in
Germany. It's not racism in this case, I don't think. If it is, then shame
on those who believe so. It's just that traditionally the German and
Japanese lens makers have had differences of opinions on what was important
in lens design. One is not inherintly superior to the other. In fact, Canon,
for one, makes some lenses that are every bit as good as Leicas, or better.
The one that comes to mind is the 300 2.8. These days, all lenses are so
good that there really is not significant performance differences in the
ares of sharpness and contrast. Each lens maker has their value judgements,
some of us prefer Leica, some Zeiss, some Nikon and some Canon. My choices
are Leica and Canon.
