Leica UK have had a problem with servicing recently as they had no
service engineers, only trainees-in-training, and service and repair
items had to be sent to Germany. Having waited six months to get my 60mm
Macro-Elmarit back after conversion to 3 cams, I called them about
getting a Summarit(-M) serviced and said I didn't wanrt to wait half a
year to get it back. The service manager actually gave me the name and
number of an independent (ex-Leica) engineer who specialises in screw-
mount equipment, but who will do more recent stuff also. It turns out
they used to work side-by-side some years ago in the Leica service dept.
I have a feeling Leica service depts will usually know who is the best
bet for independent work on older screwmount gear, as they will be ex-
Leica personnel anyway (I would hope!). I just wonder how easy it will
be to get the information.
