Hi Fred!

According to the "Leica Pocket Book" ... 

"Leitz began to number lenses externally, approximately from number 92000.
... The number on the earlier lenses which have no external number can be
found by dismantling the lens, as its number is usually scratched on the
metal mount of the lens unit."
