Achtung Leicaphiles!

I just received the latest issue of Color Foto (6/96) which summarizes
their lens test results from the past several years and Leica lenses are
outstanding in their respective categories.

The test summary lists the following categories:
uberragend - the absolute best(tops)
hervorragend - outstanding
sehr gut - very good
 gut - good
brfriedigend - satisfactory
mangelhaft - poor

other that the Canon 300mm f2.8 l USM the ONLY lenses rated uberragend
were Leica lenses including:

Leica APO Summicron f2.0 180mm
Leica APO-Telyt-R f4.0 280mm
Leica APO-Telyt-R f2.8 280mm
Leica APO-Telyt-R f2.8 400mm

The touted Leica Summilux-M Aspherical f1.4 35mm was rated hervorragend.
Most other tested Leica lenses were in the hervorragend category with
the exception of the Leica Super Elmarit-R f3.5 15mm which was rated gut
(good) the equal to Nikon with other manufacturers in the satisfactory
category.

I hope this puts some of the latest posts regarding Leica lens testing
to rest. Color Foto does extensive MTF testing at diferent aperature in
addition to centering, distrotion, vignetting etc.

Happy shooting.
