Ah, and much more to the point: you can pick up superb Russian lenses for
one heck of a lot less than the Canon and Nikon lenses, which now have that
(ugh!) collector's patina:

5.6/20 Russar MR-2 (Zeiss Jena Topogon clone) $US 400 w/VF
6/28 Orion-15 (Zeiss Jena Topogon clone) 250
2.8/35 Jupiter-12 (Zeiss Jena Biogon clone) 175
2/50 Jupiter-8 (Zeiss Jena Sonnar clone) 125
1.5/50 Jupiter-3 (Zeiss Jena Sonnar clone) 175
2/85 Jupiter-9 (Zeiss Jena Sonnar clone) 150
4/135 Jupiter-11 (Zeiss Jena Sonnar clone) 100

All are fine lenses, all are available coated, and, frankly, why screw
around with Canon and Nikon when cheap Zeiss lenses are available? Of
course, (sigh) there ARE folks who like dim, low-contrast, fuzzy pictures ...
