What they seem to have missed is the design used by Minolta for the
Autopole polarizer on its Autocord TLRs. This had separate taking-lens
and viewing-lens filters, geared together to keep them in the same
orientation. It couldn't be that much more complicated to rig something
like that up with a filter over the viewfinder driven by the lens filter
(it would be a bit more complex, because you'd want the finder's filter
to be set back close to the front of the camera, implying an intermediate
driveshaft).
