                     ^^^^It's a full stop (which means twice as much light).
If you do not need this extra stop, the (new) 2.8/90 Elmarit with
builtin lenshood is superb, compact, significantly cheaper and got 
excellent ratings in many magazines. I use this lens since nearly two
years without any disappointment or problem.
