[Leica] Cataract Surgery advise/recommendations

You can sometimes tell this is a group of older folk....  Someone
mentions cataracts and you get a gazillion responses form the collective
old eye gang.....

I have mine done about 7 years ago.  fast and painless.  Mine are setup
with the (cheapo) normal replacement lenses. I was told that I owuld
probably need reading glasses after the operation, so I could not figure
a reason to have the variable lenses installed.  After all, part of the
promise of the variable lenses is to do away with glasses.....  if I was
going to still need them, why bother?

But forget all that,,,, it will go well and you will see a bit or a lot
better.  Remember, the problem is that you now have a non clear lens you
are looking through.  they replace it with a clear one.

My experience in one eye was not without its problems... about a year
after the surgery, I had reduced quality of vision in one eye.
Apparently, and not rarely, I had grown (?) / Developed (?) / otherwise
had what appears to be a membrane inside the eye that restricts
vision... basically a different cloudiness....

The fix was easy.... they sat me in a chair, and blasted the membrane by
shooting pulses of laser light in a ring pattern.... when they were
done, I was looking through the center of that ring.  ( the ring gets
absorbed by the body).....  The closest comparison I can make is to
shoot out the center of a target, so that the only thing left is the
periphery.  Took all of 5 minutes.

Overall the experience was a good one.  Certainly not painful. Your
personal results will vary... my eyes were not that bad and I almost
could not see a difference.  Others have a remarkable change to deeply
saturated colors or quantum level leaps of resolution improvement.

  good luck.....
