The presence of the little girl makes it.

As butler and general dogsbody to two cats, I can aver that they like 
getting their paws bloody. One, the younger,  keeps losing or even 
removing his collar and warning bell to likely awful consequences to the 
local avian residents. Have to buy another collar tomorrow. Better buy 
three, I suppose.
