The last full week of June is an orgy in Alicante. Many streets in the centre are closed to traffic to make room for large temporary bars, there are elaborate installations all over the city that are burned at midnight on June 24th, and in general many locals stay away from the city, especially in the evening. This includes me. But I do like to visit in the afternoon when things are more low-key (relatively!) and it is easier to move around and take pictures—and park your car. We also had our department summer lunch (again, a relative term here in Spain), and we got together with friends who have an apartment with a fabulous view of the city to watch the fireworks marking the end of the fun.
