Ric,

I am sitting in what I think of as the secret garden here. It is not much used but Phillys works on it daily to keep it blooming. I have thought about the world and its disasters and defects too much today. Now I am just giving thanks for the life and work of my friend Louis, a 95 year old man who cares if people have flowers. In a world where you have to be a billionaire to have any say or get any respect it’s tempting to say his life and work are not all that much but at least it’s something. But that is a lie, and totally untrue. That a 95 year old man in an electric chair cares enough to make sure that other ninety five year olds have flowers for their rooms is phenomenally important. It’s what makes life on this planet worthwhile and livable.
