I was back in Paris for work again in mid-April, a quick 2-day trip during which I had the pleasure of meeting lapsed LUGger (his own description) Leo Wesson and his partner Diana.

After returning home on Wednesday night, I enjoyed a day off on Thursday. The second Thursday after Easter is a local holiday in Alicante called Santa Faz (“holy face”). It is a tradition going back more than 500 years, am 8 km procession from the cathedral of Alicante to a monastery on the outskirts of the city where a monastery (also called Santa Faz) holds an important relic, a cloth supposedly used to wipe Jesus’s face on his way to the Calvary. In 1489, when the relic was being brought here from Rome (I think), a tear rolled down the cloth and it began to rain, ending a long drought that had devastated the area.

One can choose to believe all that or not, but in any event, each year more than 300,000 people participate in the procession. Some for religious reasons, others because it is a nice local tradition, and still others just to have a good time. And I go to take pictures.

It’s all here:

And as always, comments and critique are welcome and appreciated.
