On the second Thursday after Easter, one of the most important events in Alicante takes place, the Santa Faz procession. You can read about it here:
https://www.barcelo.com/guia-turismo/en/spain/alicante/things-to-do/monastery-santa-faz/

This year, about 330,000 people took part in the procession, roughly equal to the population of Alicante. In previous years, I have walked at least part of the route, but since I came back from a business trip late Wednesday night, I just went to the end point of the procession to meet up with a couple of people from work and take in the atmosphere. The event is a mix of religious devotion and, this being Spain, a fiesta and an outdoor market. A small gallery is here:

The two ladies in the 7th picture are my two German colleagues Alexandra and Karin. Having a beer at 10 a.m. is a very Spanish thing to do. We are all going native, having lived here for many years. Alexandra was really hard core: she walked the 8 km from the centre to the monastery, starting at 7 a.m., and she walked back rather than taking a bus (she lives in the centre).

Cheers,
Nathan
