We had similar paths, Leica IIIf, Rollei, and Nikon F and F2.  My first 35
was an Agfa Silette SLE.  I was fifteen when I bought it at the Base
Exchange at Rhein Main AFB.    It cost something like $250, and that was a
fortune earned by endless weekend and summer hours at a hotel restaurant on
base.  I still have it and it works, with not a bit of rust.
