While any cloud is not MY cuppa, it is good to keep your important records copied off line somewhere safe, like in the cloud. Backblaze charges $100
per year for unlimited storage. ( if you use a NAS to copy from, they charge about $6 per TB per month). This is a good deal, but not really super
cheap.....
For a lot less money ($120 or so, on a one time purchase) , you can buy a cheap USB desktop or portable HDD (WD or Seagate) and find a friend or
Father.Mother,Sister,Son,Daughter's house to leave it at. Update it as often or infrequently as you wish.
I use a second home as my remote location. I have a Synology NAS there and another at home. I sneaker-net the files across to update them.... my
Internet provider wants a fortune to upgrade the service (speed of service) such that I could use remote upgrade using NAS to NAS transfers. This is
maybe not the cheapest solution, but the NAS costs about $300, 2x 16TB HDD at $200 each, and you have a 16TB fully protected system, forever. (
redundant data storage form the RAID array is another safety protection)
It just occurred to me... does everyone know what sneaker-net is?
I have worked with 2 of our LUG members to completely remotely setup and monitor their NAS solutions. I would be willing to work with others as
well.... just ask... cost is $0.
