I first went to Italy when I was about fifteen and this was about 1960, so
most young Italian guys couldn't afford cars. They chose Vespas and
Lambrettas to do their cruising, and the machines were often festooned with
custom chromed touches and all seemed to have multi-toned hornets. The
prize decoration on these stud machine often was a beautiful girl riding
side-saddle behind her guy. For a young Americano having landed solidly in
puberty, I lusted for both the machines and the gals who deftly rode the
back seats.
