[Leica] Best practices for carrying camera gear on long-haul trips

I fly fairly often with stupid amounts of gear. I use a backpack that
will fit under the seat and will hold a 300 f2.8 plus bodies and three or
so lenses. If necessary I will check clothes as I can easily find clothes
anywhere but lenses not so much.
I have found that a careful selection of clothing/personal items allows a
week in another backpack sized piece of luggage. Sometimes I will save
space by planning on purchasing items at the destination.
In fairness in the past I have checked camera gear in a fitted pelican that
was TSA locked condition. After "stories" about theft at the Atlanta
Airport I discontinued that practice.
