Slow in catching up here, Nathan.
Always nice to see a foreign eye view of Dublin, and I had to laugh at
"Conflicting Sentiments" which is typical of a certain Dublin
irreverence. It's a great collection, and is encouraging me to get out
more. BTW I'm up to No. 3 in Ireland on the Fuji waiting list.
Incidentally, the bridge is the Sean Heuston Bridge and not the
O'Connell one and was renamed after the man whose statue you
photographed in the Phoenix Park. It was originally called King's Bridge
but obviously the taste for things named after British kings ebbed
rather rapidly after the Irish War of Independence. It was renamed
Sarsfield Bridge after what some people call a patriot of convenience -
Patrick Sarsfield (1655-1693) - on the foundation of the Irish state,
and then, in a rethink, renamed after Heuston who had actually managed
to die for Ireland. Life and legacy are all about the fickleness of timing.

I met up with fellow LUGger Douglas, and we walked around a bit, had a pint or two, and visited St. Patrick’s Cathedral, where I had never been. I also spent a morning walking around Phoenix Park, the largest enclosed green space in Europe, really beautiful. Otherwise, as is my habit, I prowled the streets, enjoying the nice weather and looking for interesting scenes. It is all here:
