[Leica] One of my photos on the local news

This is not unusual. The GDPR imposes a set of requirements regarding privacy of users which smaller US media typically do not want to or cannot comply with, so they block access from EU IP addresses. For the main media like NY Times, CNN etc. this is not an issue but for a local TV station in Indiana it is not worth it to change their practices to be able to be visible in a market which is of little interest to them.
