while staying at the South Beach Campground by Newport, OR, we walked
down to the beach at sunset and were greeted by a nice sunset

My wife said something about a boat and I did not see it as I was
looking out in the water. The boat was actually beached.

We walked to it to see what had happened. Here are a few shots of the
beached Judy.

We were going to leave the next day but went down to the beach to see if
it was still there. There had been long heavy lines strung out on the
beach and was wondering what they were going to do. As we got close we
were not allowed to the beach and saw a helicopter carrying the rope out
to a tug boat off shore. You can sort of see the line in this photo. I
only had my Q3, so at 28mm it was a stretch.

Part of the crowd.

As the tide rose, the water reached the boat.

Finally the tug was able to pull the boat through the sand and it
started floating and was pulled off shore

Cheers went up and we thought all was well. Then things went badly.
For some reason, the boat headed to the jetty and a fairly high rate of
speed. There must have been someone onboard who started the engines but
for some reason had no control. I had thought the tug was still hooked
up, but it had dropped the line and the Judy was on her own. It hit the
jetty with a big boom, baked off and hit it again and almost capsized.

Not a great photo as the 28mm is really cropped a lot. It hit one more
time and then somehow backed away from the jetty and headed out past it
and sat there for quite some time. We had to go, so that ends my
story. I did find a video of the battle with the jetty taken with a
camera that had a longer lens than I did.

I don't do facebook but I think there is more information there.
Comments welcome.
