I’m sorry to hear that. I’m not a portraitist, but I like to think of photographers (especially Leicanauts) as being a cut above in terms of sophistication and worldliness, like LUGgers in general. It ain’t necessarily so!

I suspect what you’re seeing is part of the larger phenomenon of patriarchy and outright toxic masculinity that seems to pervade the online aspects of many male-dominated pursuits, computer gaming and coding being the worst according to what I’ve read. 

I agree with your final sentiment. Social media and instant communication, filtration, feedback, and outrage amplification are the reasons why when Earth gets visited by aliens, if there’s still a human race, they’ll tell us “Kill your internet!” AI is poised to take over social media and political advertising and discourse, and probably all forms of art as well. Humanity has created and loosed something that it is too disorganized and focused on instant gratification (thanks, evolution!) to be willing to take control of.
