Jay, I think you hit the nail on the head, and translated my explanation
some.  I was speaking of the immigrant basis of this land.  Between Kathy
and I, we have Danish, English, French, Scot, German and French blood.  We
live in a small town in Louisiana, and some of our friends and neighbors
are Chinese, Indian, Native American, Belgian and French.  The town is a
colonial French city, near a colonial Spanish settlement.  Some people are
still French speakers. We had a friend who posted her nationality as “Other
Alien” as there was no place to tick African.  We also have some rednecks
who are probably are descendants of the French Marines who first arrived
here to colonize this part of Louisiana.

Good question, made me think.
