In Louisiana, they’re a problem as they dig into the levees and damage
them. They’re sizable about like a medium sized dog, so a few of them can
make mush out of a levee and cause it to fail.
In Jefferson Parish next door to New Orleans, the Sheriffs office uses
nutria control officers in boats to attempt control of the critters in the
many drainage canals.
