Northeastern NC is on the Atlantic Flyway and is a major winter home of tundra swan and snow geese among other waterfowl. Our larger Carolina Bay Lakes make their base and roost. Most are now part of our National Wildlife Refuge system. Pungo is now part of Pocosin Lakes NWR.
