Thanks for looking.
Actually the big cats are totally different in behavioural patterns. Lions
usually hunt in the night as a pack, on the open plains, and sleep during
the day. Leopards are opportunistic ambush hunters, and stick to areas with
cover. Cheetahs are active only during the day, and hunt only during the
daylight hours when lions and hyenas are likely to be resting, and
therefore they are less likely to have the kill stolen from them. Cheetahs
never return to a kill and never scavenge, and so they have to kill fairly
often to get their quota of fresh meat.
The real conflict, that occurs all the time, is between Lions and the
Spotted Hyenas, who are sworn enemies, and will kill each other, if
possible - as they span roughly the same ecological niche at the same times
of the day.
