Meanwhile, here in Carlsbad, California, we have unseasonably warm 
weather.

The National Weather Service predicts a high of 75°F (24°C) midafternoon 
December 25.
My wife has asked me to turn on our pool heater the night before, so we 
can go in the pool that day. I told her it would cost $150 to $200 to 
heat the pool for one day. She pointed out that is less than the meat 
cost for dinner that day.

I remember several decades ago being told that heating Canterbury 
Cathedral for Christmas services cost £500 per hour. Given the heating 
cost situation in the UK it is probably twice or thrice that now.
