My experience is that cardinals spend a good deal of time on the ground.
I've chased a couple around here trying to get good shots, and the one I
posted a couple of months ago was when he stopped for an instant on an
address sign, mostly he was on a pretty bad background. Lucky you for
getting that nice shot.
