I never buy the largest size available. I buy NAS certified 7200RPM. I always buy on sale, which basically means last year’s model. I prefer Seagate and WD. I always replace all of the disks in a NAS (one at a time) when the second drive fails. I buy one more than the NAS holds, so I have a spare. I check SMART data about once a month. If I were buying now I would look first at 12TB Seagate.
