Ric, if you have a Sassafras tree, when the young tender leaves come out,
pick a few, and dry them gently. Then you pulverize them into a powder,
then use the powder as a thickener and flavor in gumbo. Don't boil the
gumbo after you've added the file'.
This is similar to a process that you are undoubtedly familiar with from
your youth, only you don't smoke it. ;-)
