A similar sad analogy is probably everywhere, Jim.
One of my grandfathers was heavily involved in the Irish Civil War as
both an IRA Battalion Intelligence Officer and gunman (he was in Michael
Collins's Squad), and the other was working for the British Crown.
Mutual hatred has mollified here and now both sides are in a coalition
government with the Green Party. It's an uncomfortable alliance, as,
even though they're both centre right in outlook, scoring points against
each other was (and maybe still is) their prime focus. CoVid has been
great for smoothing out differences as the prime job is survival of the
species (genus Homo Hibernicus).
