The most recent backups don’t hold these « edits » he’s lost, that’s the main issue.
Now if he uses the older or oldest catalog, he then will have lost all the edits he’s made since the mishap (that occurred at an unknown date btw).
Hence my idea of merging the current catalog with the older ones, strating from the oldest and incrementially going towards the current one, all in a new catalog for safety.
The question is; do this make sense?
