Hi Don!

The Catholic Church appropriated all the pagan celebrations and replaced them with its own. Possibly the people did not want to forget their traditions, however Halloween has never been a celebration in European culture, or at least Spanish, the tradition here is the night of October 31 are eaten roasted chestnuts, sweet potatoes and "panallets”.
