I think RC was always more popular in the south than in the Midwest, but my parents used to buy it all the time when I was young. It is actually still sold here; I recently saw it for sale at Meijer (a midwestern grocery chain). I should buy some, its been30 years since I have drank RC, and I remember it being very good!

Down in Mississippi that sign was fairly popular even into the mid 70's.
Although Cocola signs were fast more popular in the vernacular of the Delta.
