I first contacted Steve when he got Tikwa, his golden lab, in Arizona. He
was such a great photographer that my wife wouldn't stop bugging me about
getting a lab based upon Tikwa's puppy picture. We got our lab named Al a
few months later.

Steve and I (and Tikwa & Al) finally met in Yosemite one winter weekend. It
was such a hoot seeing Steve, who was a simply marvelous "portrait"
photographer, be so overwhelmed by Yosemite that he actually took
landscapes! Of course he would not use a tripod, as much as I pestered him
about that ;-)

Steve moved from Arizona to Sacramento when his life's love, Dominique,
developed Alzheimers. He hoped that her being close to her children would
slow the progress of this horrid disease she had. Whether it did or not,
no-one will know, but it was the kind of act of humanity, kindness, and
self sacrifice that I came to realize was the core of Steve. I was also,
via Steve, fortunate to have one of the most lovely weekends ever in
Yosemite with him and Ted; truly an unforgettable time.

When Steve moved to Sacramento, he traveled again to his second country,
France, which he completely adored and had a kindred spirit with. He was
fortunate to have been able to make this journey before he was struck down.

Steve, a lover of family, humanity, culture, music, fine cameras, sushi,
and fine single malt scotch will be missed by all who knew him. This should
not have happened so soon to such a good person.

Steve maintained a page of photos of Leica using photographers. Perhaps
Brian or someone can continue on with this page which brings a more human
connection of those who participate, or have participated, on the LUG. We
can use more of this when we write to each other on the LUG. Here's the

Steve has left fond memories with many of us. May we keep the best of him
with us; the finest tribute one can mgive a person after they have passed
through this life.
Remembering the best of Steve,
Bob
