The best thing Sidney Bechet ever did for jazz is to mentor a young
alto/soprano sax genius called Johnny Hodges! Duke Ellington could never
have reached the pinnacles he did, both as a composer and bandleader,
without his most influential, distinctive and distinguished soloist for
half a century!
Cheers
