So, I also own the stock. I bought a significant amount for the same
reasons that Frank mentioned. Some of our silent members work for Adobe or
are professionals who earn some of their income from Adobe. But the real
reason I am responding to this thread is to encourage people to pay the
rent. Their upgrades have made the programs extremely valuable for editing
images or video to you as an imager. The ease of editing an image and the
level of control available in mind boggling to me: I struggled to composit
images 40 years ago and now you can easily do focus stacking, exposure
bracketing, selective focus control, selective contrast control, selective
color manipulation over a cup of coffee. The real struggle is to use the
tools appropriately and not go off into the weeds.
So, renting is not as attractive as owning. Adobe has steadily improved
their product and its interface, switching an image between programs is
easy, the tools provided are powerful. On the rental plan I would highly
suggest exporting your best images as TIFF's so if Adobe ever goes away you
have the edited versions available. But, go ahead and rent the program as
you will find the tools worth the price.
