[Leica] Advantages of M lenses on the SL compared to R lenses? Adapters?

Last October in Wetzlar, Peter Karbe presented data for the SL prime lenses - the 50mm in particular.  The image quality, based on the M lenses, was off the scale.  The SL lenses, based on Leica data and not inhibited by size and not miniaturized, are the best lenses Leica has ever made.
