Je relisais La Chambre Claire de Barthes hier en attendant mon tour chez le toubib (pour des vaccinations exotiques), et ta photo tout à coup reapparaît avec ce mouchoir en papier. Ca fait tilt et tout fait sens. Je cite Barthes p.84 : « le Studium est en définitive toujours codé, le Punctum ne l’est pas ». C’est bien ce qui fait que ta photo marche si bien pour moi, qu’elle me parle, pas seulement du lieu et de la femme qui lit (Studium), mais de la condition humaine, la mienne (ce mouchoir est mon punctum).

I read Barthes’s Camera Lucida again yesterday. He draws a line in photo between studium, always (culturally) coded, and punctum, never coded and drawing by surprise upon the viewer’s own experience. 
François’ lady reading in a church could be limited to studium, were it not for this white tissue/hanky dropped in a ball which makes a perfect punctum for me. Formidable!
